We all have those days where our minds are going 50 miles a minute. We think about everything. We have worry and stress, sometimes we are even just so excited that we can’t slow down our thoughts.
Maybe you are worried about getting “your” parking spot. Or maybe you are having a bad hair day and you are just really worried about what people think and your constantly fixing it.
Let’s look at the alternative of negative things filling our minds… positive things! Maybe you just got a promotion and your mind is racing to figure out how you are going to set up your new office! Or maybe you just got engaged and your mind is overwhelmed with wedding plans! These are all wonderful things that happen to us that occupi our minds, and that’s not necessarily always a bad thing.
This is what I want to focus on: when we are in the presence of God, these thoughts leave our minds. When we allow our hearts to press into the Spirit of God, the worry, the fear, the joy of all the things going on in your life leaves. But your mind isn’t just empty when this happens, no actually it is still filled with thoughts, just not about your problems and struggles and joys.
When we press into the Lord we are given a peace so indescribable that our minds overflow with thoughts of the Lord. We rest in His goodness and kindness and mercy. We lift up His precious name that redeems and saves. When we are in the presence of the Lord it is like everything stops and it’s just you and God.
Sometimes we get so caught up in the things of this life and the thoughts that come with it that we forget to allow this to happen. We go to a worship service and instead of focusing on God, we use the time to think about what we are going to have for lunch or what this week’s schedule looks like. We let this things hinder us from entering the presence of God.
What we need to do is take time to just slow down, turn off our minds that are focused on the things of this world and focus on the God most high that sent His son to die for us. We need to allow the spirit to take over our minds and fill us with the thoughts of God.
Isaiah 55.8-9 says “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts”.
God’s thoughts are above ours. They are higher up than ours. They are more liberating than ours. Isn’t that something you want to encounter? Isn’t that something you just want to experience? The ways of God in your life? The thoughts that He can give you?
Friends I tell you, press into Him. Press into the presence of God and be redeemed and liberated by it. We are told to “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangled and run with endurance the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12.1). Are your thoughts hindering you from running the track of life God has placed before you? Are you so caught up in the things of your life, good or bad, that you are forgetting or unable to enter into the presence of the Lord. God is knocking at your door, but he won’t open it for you.
Press into God and let the peace of God that surpasses all understanding overcome you (Philippians 4.7)! Get on your knees and bow before your God because He is the one who delivers from the worry and stress on your mind! Seek His face because He is the one that gave you that blessing to begin with! It is not impossible. Open the door and let God in!
Repeat this to yourself “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on things of God, but on the things of man” (Matthew 16.23). When we let other things consume us instead of the things of God, it is Satan trying to distract us. As we grow closer and closer to Christ, we will be able to recognize that it is the enemy trying to seek in.
Lastly, we need to “set our minds on things above, not on things that are on earth” (Colossians 3.2). When we set our minds on things above, we know that we can have peace.
Do you need the peace of God today? Do you feel captivated by your thoughts? Like they are holding you in a bondage that you cannot control? Friends I tell, you, turn to Jesus and surrender and He will give you peace! He will set you free because of the love He has for you. Do not wait. Do not let this go on any further. Seek God now, because He is Here Now.
